Speakeasy
60 S 30 S THINK 30 S TALK

Two words One talk Everything you said, written out

Speakeasy is an iPhone app for talking on the spot.

Two words that have nothing to do with each other, sixty seconds on the clock, and you have to say something out loud that connects them. It is practice for people who freeze when they have to think without a script.

How it works

Thirty seconds to find an angle, then thirty to talk while your phone listens and writes down what you said. Afterwards it shows you the things you cannot hear yourself doing: how fast you went, where you stopped long enough that a listener would have noticed, which words you reach for when you are stuck, and the whole thing written out. You can hear the talk back.

There is no score. A number out of ten would tell you nothing you can act on.

Privacy

The talk happens on the phone. Speech is turned into text by the phone itself, the recording stays on it, there is no account to make, and two taps delete every talk you have given, audio included.

Two things reach the network: a small settings file and the word packs, which are the same for everyone, and one optional feature that sends the text of a talk to Google to judge whether you joined the two words. It stays off until you switch it on.

Requirements

iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Microphone and speech recognition permissions, which the app asks for the first time you start a talk. The phone downloads Apple’s speech model once, over Wi-Fi, so that transcription can run on the device.
